How long a dog can live? – Life span of dogs

Life span of dogs is based upon various things. First it is based on its breed. Which breed it belongs to? If it is short or toy breed, its life span is high compared to larger breed. It may be because of his hormonal growth. Smaller breeds mostly live 14-16 years while medium or large size one normally lives 10-13 years and giant dog breeds lives 6-8 years.

The small breed dogs are the most healthiest dog also. These breeds have a least number of health issues.

For ex: Pomeranian, Dachshund dogs have 13-15 years and Chihuahua may cross 17 years while larger breeder like

  • Great Dane, French Mastiff will last for small life periods about 6-8 years.
  • Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd life expectancy is bout 10-12 years.
  • Beagle, Dachshund, Siberian husky, Shih Tzu, Boston terrier are said to be live for about 12-15 years.
  • Normally Australian cattle dogs and Chihuahua are considered to be long life breed.

Based on the diet and nutrient food the dog age may vary. The dogs which get well nutritious food, regular exercise and proper diet can live longer than those doesn’t get.

It is said that Cross Breeding dogs have longer lifespan than the purebred due to genetic reasons.

Neutering is the removal of reproductive organs in dogs which may reduce the risk of many unwanted problems which causes early death and it increases life span of dogs.

It can’t be said these dogs have the exact life as mentioned above. It depends upon the dog owners who cares the dog.
