It is always important to take care of your pet teeth as we do.  As we get problems in our teeth due to improper dental care, dog also gets dental problems if it is not taken care. Most of the dogs get affected by periodontal or gum disease within 3 years. The bacteria that enter into their body from the oral affected area may cause heart, liver and lung problems.

Your dog may get bad breath, severe pain, unable to chew their food, tooth lose may occur. It is hard to find your dog pain because they will not realize their pain easily.

To avoid any serious problems in your pet it is better to take care of their teeth and gums at the early stage.
Brushing or cleaning their teeth regularly makes a good oral care and reduces the cause of plaque or gum diseases. It may extent the time to take them to the Vet for dental checkup.

Professional cleaning is done only by giving anesthesia. It is better to avoid it by brushing their teeth daily.

How to Brush?

  • Pet stores have the toothbrush and toothpaste that is suited for your dog.
  • Introduce this to your dog slowly. First give him tooth paste to lick and then use your fingers to brush.
  • Open their lips alone first, at starting don’t open their mouth.
  • Then introduce toothbrush with paste and apply them gently.
  • After a few weeks of practice, open their mouth by correctly positioning your fingers.
  • Now apply the toothbrush in all sides and to all the teeth.

Note:
It is good to introduce brushing when your dog is young.
Don’t use the people tooth paste. It contains nicotine and fluoride that can be spit out by humans. But your dog will swallow it. So buy tooth paste that is meant for dog which has many flavors.
Don’t forget to reward him by giving the treat or by praising him before and after brushing the teeth. Make brushing as a fun to him.
